Miss Luz

Luz D. Tamayo migrated to the US when she was 15 years old and has lived in Rhode Island ever since.  Luz is bilingual in English and Spanish and is currently an Early Childhood Educator at Pleasant View Elementary School in Providence, Rhode Island. She joined the Providence School Department in February of 2002, assuming the role of Bilingual Special Educator and continues to work in the same role and other roles, such as child evaluator, for the Providence School Department.  Before joining the Providence School Department, she worked at Progreso Latino as an Early Childhood Specialist (Trainer), and as an Early Childhood Head Teacher in the Day Care where she worked for over 10 years.

Luz earned a Bachelor's degree in Human Development, Counseling and Family Studies in addition to a minor in Special Population and Spanish from the University of Rhode Island in 1989. She holds a Master’s in Special Education with Honors, a Concentration in Urban and Multicultural Special Education which she earned in 2006 from Rhode Island College. In addition, Luz is certified in the State of Rhode Island in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Bilingual Education and also has an ESL Endorsement.  She lives in Scituate, RI. She is married and has 4 older children.

Miss Carolina

Carolina was born in Colombia, South America and her family moved to the US when she was two years old. She has lived in Rhode Island ever since. Carolina is a Bilingual, Speech-Language Pathologist (Spanish/English) and works for a local contract agency in RI. She has been working for the agency since 2011 and has had the opportunity to work with varied populations ranging from Early Intervention (newborns to 3 years of age), to elementary, middle school and high school students. Before earning her Master’s degree, Carolina worked for the State of RI for 5 years conducting hearing screenings at elementary schools throughout the state.

Carolina earned a Bachelor's degree in Communications with a concentration in Speech and Hearing Science in 2004 from Rhode Island College. She earned a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011 from Worcester State University. She is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has RI Department of Health licensure. She married her high school sweetheart over 18 years ago and they have a six-year-old son.
